We left paradise, when I was five and moved to the city to live with my mother's sister. I later learned, there were two reasons for this move: so that my parents could find work and I could attend school. My mother was sympathetic toward my desire to return to the farm, so every July 1 she took me back to paradise for the summer. I lived the rest of the year for those two months.

The authors of this biography were born in the 1920's and lived most of their childhood and much of the early war years in Portsmouth. They met in 1944 and were married in 1947. Since then they have travelled widely and together have enjoyed much pleasure in their lives and have overcome their difficulties as they have arisen. After a long and happy life together they now look forward to reaching their 60th wedding anniversary in 2007.
